Project description: in September 2012 freedom chemical was approved as a supplier for an ongoing project with the department of defense. The project was to refurbish barracks from the 1940’s with a new flooring system. JP Rodriguez was awarded 16 barracks using freedom chemicals products. Prior to the bid award other contractors and suppliers had worked on several barracks. The commanding officers on the base were so impressed with the consistancy, performance, and professionalism they awarded a remaining 32 barracks to Freedom and JP Rodriguez.

Application: since the barracks were from the 1940’s new plywood flooring had to be installed. Freedoms proprietary application of glass fabric was applied over the joints and seams. This insured no splitting of the system if boards were to come loose. Freedoms ft 6160 epoxy primer was applied at 5 mils to seal the wood and avoid pin holeing. Freedoms ft 2202 polyurea was applied at 80 mils per specification and an appropriate texturing method was used to insure a desired finish. A top coat of freedoms ft 4000 polyaspartic was then applied at 8 mils.

Results: the polyurea system was selected due to its durability and seamless application. The proprietary application of the glass fabric addressed the seams and the final look was consistent without the typical “telegraphing “ seen when applying polyurea over seams. Customer satisfaction resulted with freedom and JP Rodriguez being awarded multiple contracts. At one point the master sergeant was quoted saying “this is the best application of polyurea i have seen.”
